Natural Finish
Please visit your local fly store and look at the rod racks. Only Scott's products will look different. Like every other approach, Natural Finish aims to make fly rods lighter, stronger, and higher performing. Many blanks used by other companies are run through a belt sander after firing to smooth the surface, which cuts off the important fibers around the perimeter and can create variations. If flat spots are created during this polishing process, the strength of the blank will be reduced, so the blank is designed to be thicker to account for this. Once the blanks have been polished, they are painted to look good in the store. In contrast, the natural finish blanks that Scott uses do not go through a sanding belt and do not have the thick paint that often stands out in fly stores. We believe in the natural beauty of carbon fiber. Natural Finish blanks are manufactured to exacting specifications. A state-of-the-art resin system soaks into the fibers and lifts them to the surface, resulting in a durable finish that will stand up to long-term abuse.
Recoil Guides
The patented nickel-titanium alloy snake guides will never rust. With shape memory performance, it returns to its original shape even if deformed.
Titanium
Lightweight, yet tough and with the highest corrosion resistance, titanium has no worries when used in saltwater environments. To make the best fly rods, the best components must also be used. Strength, lightness, and corrosion resistance must be taken into consideration. The titanium used in the stripping guides of our high-end models is 65% lighter than stainless steel material and does not corrode at all. The SiC guides inserted into it are diamond-polished and are the smoothest of all ceramic materials. Like the titanium used for the frame, SiC is resistant to friction, corrosion, and heat.
Mil Spec III
Another new standard by Scott. The reel seat used on most fly rods has a shiny but thin anodized aluminum layer with a Type II finish that is easily scratched. Scratches expose the aluminum material underneath, making it susceptible to corrosion. Mil Spec III anodizing penetrates deep into the surface of the aluminum material, resulting in a hard finish that is durable and corrosion resistant. Mil-Spec III prevents galvanic corrosion caused by dissimilar metal contact and withstands temperatures as high as 900 degrees Fahrenheit (482 degrees Celsius).
Universal Guides
The patented Snake Guides are manufactured by Snake Brand. It has a curved foot that matches the blank well, is highly corrosion resistant, and is even self-lubricating to shoot line farther.
E-Glass
E-Glass, which will be Scott's special order, is an innovative unidirectional material that, combined with epoxy resin, explores the cutting edge of fiberglass fly rods. Scott's glass rods are light, responsive, and have extremely fast recovery speeds. These models combine the great fishing comfort of glass with high performance.
Fiberfuse Resin
New to Radian this year is Fiberfuse Resin, a newly introduced resin that significantly increases the strength of the fiber-to-fiber bond, making it over 20% stronger than traditional epoxy.
ARC (ARC Technology)
Advanced Reinforced Carbon. Eliminates kinks and increases strength. Scott is the leader in carbon blank reinforcement technology. The latest ARC technology increases the crumple resistance of the blank without increasing weight and reduces twisting that can adversely affect casting accuracy and line control.
Multi-modulus design
Fine tuning for bend and resilience. Scott is a pioneer in designing blanks by combining multiple materials of different modulus (hardness). By arranging materials with different modulus according to the function of each part of the rod, it is possible to precisely control the hardness and speed of restoration of the blank. The result is a rod that bends and recovers smoothly.
X-Core
Improved feel, incredible stability, and unmatched performance: X-Core is the product of radical design and cutting-edge composite technology. The stiffness and strength of a rod is proportional to the diameter of the blank, and X-Core stands for ExpandedCore, this technology creates rods that transmit feel and maintain stability better than any other design approach. To create a rod that combines stiffness with feel, stability with sensitivity, Scott used a fast-tapered mandrel and combined it with a lightweight thin-walled blank reinforced with ARC technology. This design makes the rod feel life-like in your hand. The slow taper, thick-wall design also provides stiffness and strength, but the feel is not as good as a rod with X-Core technology.
ReAct
ReAct is a breakthrough in fast action rod design that combines X-Core technology with new materials and a new taper. Excess vibration in the rod during the casting stroke or after the loop occurs can adversely affect casting distance, line control, and accuracy. ReAct is a technology that increases the speed of blank recovery without increasing the amount of material and stiffening the rod, preventing energy-sucking vibration. Casting and fishing feel has been further enhanced.
CarbonWeb
A totally new and proprietary technology, CarbonWeb Technology increases torsional stiffness and durability by encasing a layer of unidirectional carbon fiber in an ultra-thin multi-directional carbon sheet. The rod can be easily moved without twisting during the stroke. The rod does not twist during the stroke, making it easier to move and pick up long lines. The overall durability of the rod is improved by reducing the expansion of micro-fractures that can occur in some areas due to impacts or high loads during use. When CarbonWeb Technology is combined with ARC and Multimodulus layups, the fly rod goes even further. The technical details laid out above can be summarized simply as …… more performance, easier handling, and more fun.
ARC 2
More than 15 years ago, Scott introduced the world to the ultra-lightweight Unidirectional Carbon Fiber Reinforcement process, a breakthrough technology known as ARC, which produced a blank that was resistant to twist and crush with minimal weight gain. The new generation, ARC 2, is 35% lighter than the previous version, and features an intricate combination of graphite materials in an ultra-lightweight blank construction. The torsional stiffness has been further increased and the blank is much lighter. The rod is now easier to swing on the same plane, resulting in improved loop control and accuracy.
CARBON LINK
Centric features an extremely dense blank made with high-precision technology utilizing an innovative resin system. The result is an extremely lightweight and efficient rod that does not create casting fatigue. Both accuracy and ease of use have been improved. Whether you are floating a dry along the far bank or making short roll casts on your favorite nymph-rich rapids, the Centric's light weight, fast recovery speed, and great feel make it a pure joy to fly fish with.
Celicoil Guide
This revolutionary patent-pending guide is made of a nickel-titanium alloy shape memory frame with a wonderfully smooth zirconia insert. It never corrodes, returns to its original shape immediately, and provides excellent line slippage. The sericoil guides Scott uses are ion-plated in a low-reflective black. It is much tougher and smoother than the traditional plating process.
