Swing Your Favorite Style: "Swing" Series Now Available!
August 1, 2023 Montrose, Colorado --- Scott Fly Rod Company today announces the introduction of its new "Swing" fly rod series.
To catch steelhead and salmon, you have to swim your fly at the right angle, in the matching layer, and at the ideal speed. The right rod is the key to solving the mystery of running fish.
There are many different ways to pursue these fish, also known as "one fish in a thousand casts" fish. You may use a single-hand rod, a short double-hand rod, or a long double-hand rod, even in the same fishing area. There is also a wide variety of what to cast: floating line, sinking line, dry, wet, traditional swinging flies with riffle hitches, nymph & indicator combinations, and more. The variations are truly endless. So Scott has developed a series to suit every style and fishing style.
The newly developed "Swing" series incorporates technology and details to meet the diverse needs of all regions of the world.
In a development process that involved input and field testing from professional anglers and casters in Alaska, the Great Lakes region, Canada, Norway, and the West and East Coasts of the United States, great care was taken to ensure that each model met the exact application set for it.
The "Swing" series is characterized by progressive bends, fast recovery, stability without blurring, and no weight.
The Swing series features a newly developed taper with multi-directional layers of graphite fibers of different modulus, the ARC2 reinforcement system, the Carbon Link resin system, and top-quality parts.
One of the breakthrough parts is a stripping guide with a ring made of silicon nitride in a shaped titanium frame that greatly reduces shooting line tangling. The remaining guides are Snake brand universal snake guides.
The newly developed reel seat is machined from bar stock and coated with Type 3 hard coat, and the reel foot pocket is sized to fit not only modern high-performance reels, but also many vintage British reels. The locking screw has an aggressive pitch that is easy to turn even with a stiff hand after a day of fishing. The grip shape is also newly designed and made of the highest quality Flor grade cork for comfort, grip, and longevity.
Jim Burch, Scott's Rod Designer and President, commented. Jim Birch, Scott's Rod Designer and President, commented, "The development of the Swing Series has been a very satisfying project. The task of developing high performance single and double hand rods to chase the great fish that are considered exceptional in the fly fishing world has been a long and demanding challenge, but also a rewarding and enjoyable undertaking. I was able to work out even the smallest details in repeated correspondence with enthusiastic anglers from all over the world. It was with great pride and excitement that we finally reached the finish line of this development project."
Every Scott fly rod, including the "Swing" series, is individually handcrafted in Montrose, Colorado. Details of the new "Swing" series
Single Handed Rods
Single handled rods are experiencing a resurgence in popularity, depending on the fishing location and the angler's preference. They are also great streamer rods.
987/4
This rod is ideal for running nymph & indicator rigs, or swinging a riffle hitch on a micro tube. In addition, it is also a favorite when you want to pull streamers for any species of fish. If you go out to Alaska or Iceland, you should definitely buy one as a general-purpose rod.
988/4
For fishing with a sinking head with a heavy fly attached to a bead chain, swinging it to the opposite shore and waiting for a bite from a silver nugget coming back from the sea. This single-handled rod is capable of casting shooting heads a long distance. It is also ideal for small but large fish-breeding rivers in southwestern Alaska, near the Great Lakes, and in Norway.
The staff recommends this model for silver salmon, and it can easily handle both floating flies and sinking patterns. They can be used with very short heads as well as standard shooting heads and are pure fun.
1184/4
If you want to fish swinging, but don't have fish big enough to twist your rod, this is the time to bring it out. It's perfect for so-called "half-pounder" rods, such as steelhead up the Klamath River in California or grilse in Scotland. With a setup suited to floating lines and short sinktips, you will be able to utilize all your techniques and enjoy the lively pull. It is also excellent for swing fishing to target trout.
1186/4
Pure pleasure. Suitable for anglers who use shorter heads but need more distance and where the fish are of a typical angler's size. You will be able to use all kinds of techniques.
- The rod is so light that there is no weight at all, and the line's behavior is felt with a delicate sensation, yet the rod is so stable that no twisting is felt when changing casts or using a sink tip.
- All Around Rods -
Four models in the 12-foot range that perform well on most line types.
The four models in the 12-foot range offer great swing speed and control, allowing anglers to explore short and long distances without wasting time.
1286/4
Sweet as candy and smooth as butter. Combines outstanding ease of use with fishing pleasure. Our first choice when targeting runs up to medium size on lightweight tackle.
1287/4
This model brings the utmost versatility and fun when chasing steelhead and salmon. Targeting average sized run fish, it will do everything from short head to long belly, floating and sinking, short to long casts.
1288/4
This is the model to use when fighting winter-run steelhead in independent rivers flowing into the ocean or fall-run chromers from the Great Lakes. It boasts of its power to keep the hooked fish in control. It is also suitable for fishing for large salmon in small rivers.
12810/4
Nicknamed the "King Slayer," this model is ideal for catching king salmon in sensitive tidal areas and large Atlantic and Baltic salmon in small streams. If you want to target king-sized fish with a two-hand rod, this is it.
- Long Rods -
Three models with traditional lengths in the 13- to 14-foot range for mid- to long-belly lines, long casts and the highest level of line control.
1357/4
This is one of our staff's recommendations that will easily produce brilliant casts when combined with a short head and sink tip, but will shine only when paired with a full line of mid to long belly and long casts of tight loops. It is versatile for steelheading in British Columbia and Atlantic salmon fishing around the world.
1389/4
Similar to its sister model, the 1357/4, this one is capable of making long casts for tight loops. This is the one we recommend when you are mainly handling a sink tip. It has enough power to handle even the largest run-of-the-mill fish.
14810/4
Clear water, skeena, gaura …… This rod is designed to aim for oversized fish in large rivers. With its huge cast and unbelievable line control, it can put flies through far-off yokes and hiding places. It also features a powerful butt that will bring in heavy fish that will stick out in heavy currents.
- Viking Sticks -
Three models with a fast action finish to match the Scandinavian style of casting.
The Viking Stick is very lightweight for its length and can be used for fast tight loops with ease.
1419/4
A versatile Scandi rod. The weightlessness, ease of casting, and great line speed take casting and fishing to a new level of enjoyment. It will conquer the world's fish runs.
15110/4
If you are looking for a mythical one and have to cast a big cast of over 700 grains of line, this is the model of choice.
16110/4 Above If you need to maneuver even longer lines than the 15110/4 and require a higher level of line control, this is the cannon. If you are chasing the biggest fish, on the biggest fishing grounds, we recommend this one.
