The N.S.F. model is made of S-Glass, which has a higher elastic modulus and stronger resilience than conventional E-Glass, and the high resilience of S-Glass is also effective in long leader systems.
"We designed this rod based on the concept of combining an action that allows control of long tippets with a multi-piece rod that would be too heavy if made with a bamboo rod.
"The rod was designed with the concept of combining an action that allows control of long tippets with a multi-piece rod that would be too heavy if made with a bamboo rod. I don't consider a long tippet rod to have an action that can only be used with a long tippet, but rather a slow action within the range of solid casting. Unlike a slow action with a simple circular bending action, the action is designed to be both parabolic and progressive, and to have a section that can be pushed (a section that feels hard), with the highest priority on actual fishing. The most important need for fly fishing in mountain streams is control within fishing distance. Controllability from your feet to 15 yards is important, and if you want to narrow it down even further, 6 to 12 yards.
A rod that is comfortable to fish in a mountain stream is often a rod that is highly flexible at those distances. The key with long tippets will be the ability to easily create a trouble-free boat-shaped loop. The loop should be wide, but the top of the loop should feel like it is going straight to the point. The action that can achieve this effortlessly is one that is slow but has a hard part of the action.
The characteristics of the glass material give it an advantage in many situations, such as when fishing for big fish with fine tricks, and it is a rod that can be trusted as a spare rod for the bamboo rod school.
This rod is perfect for rainy days, fishing in mountainous areas, and other situations where you feel insecure about bamboo rods. The length, line number, etc., are perfectly balanced as a standard rod for mountain streams, so I think it can cover a considerable amount of capacity. This is how I use it, but this year I plan to do a lot of fishing in the headwaters, so I think I will be using it more. - Naoto Shibuya
