Lamson Center Axis
Lamson Center Axis Saltwater Rods & Reels
Effortless accuracy. A heightened sense of unity even in saltwater environments
Center Axis Saltwater Rods and Reels In the early stages of the development of the Center Axis concept, we were already aware of this.
At the beginning of the development of the Center Axis Concept, we already knew that as the line number increased and the reel became heavier, this design would greatly enhance tackle balance and a sense of unity. However, we also anticipated some difficulties. How would it handle the forces of fighting a large fish? It was essential to strengthen the area from the fighting butt to the grip. The solution was the "arch," a reinforced structure with a modular three-piece construction.
However, no matter how much the Center Axis concept improves balance, it is not enough if the basic performance of the rod is not good. The saltwater rods we have developed seamlessly combine a solid lower section with a sharp, energetic tip. Fast line speeds are easily achieved and smooth, undisturbed loops pop out.
Center Axis Rod & Reel
Let go of your preconceived notions about fly rod design. Discover a new axis of thinking. A long time after the graphite revolution, this is a major evolution that has finally come to fruition. By superimposing the center of gravity of the reel on the central axis of the fly rod with a medium-fast action, we have succeeded in virtually eliminating the leverage action of the heavy object (= reel) in casting. The result will surprise you. You will be able to feel the pulse of the cast. No need for words, just hold the Center Axis. Throw it and you will understand our intentions.
Fly rod dreams, again.......
Let's throw away our preconceived notions.
In 1995, when we were seriously considering what fly reels should be, we decided to create a fly rod and reel system. In 1995, when we were seriously considering what a fly reel should be, the systemization of rods and reels was also a subject of study. It seemed to us that the existing system was not ideal. No matter how well designed a rod is, one undeniable fact detracts from its performance. That is, two-thirds of the weight felt in the hand is the reel, and that object is positioned off-center of the rod. We realized that if we could bring the mass of the reel closer to the center of the rod, the unnatural twisting that occurs while casting could be eliminated. There is such a thing as an idea that is too far ahead of its time. At the time, we were working to promote the new idea of larger arbors on fly reels, so the project of a new rod and reel system was out of our hands. But one day the times will catch up with us. The age of center-axis has finally arrived.
Reel Issues
Consider a heavy reel hanging 30 cm below the rod. The reel becomes a pendulum, creating torsional forces. The actual rod and reel set up also generates that force, albeit on a smaller scale. What you want to feel in your hand on the back cast is not the twisting force, but the load of the line. In an ideal world, your hands tell your brain when and where to cast, and the right energy is applied to the rod at the right time so that beautiful loops fly by. In order to take advantage of the feedback from your hands and make the rod and line play the rhythm, the twist in the reel, which becomes noise and dulls your senses, gets in the way.
Center Axis now available
This may be the most significant evolution since the "revolution" when graphite fiber replaced fiberglass. The leverage action of the reel in the casting motion has been greatly reduced by a special design that places the center of gravity of the light-speed reel near the rod's axis. The effect will surprise you. You can feel the pulsation of the cast. However, words cannot convey this well. Seeing is believing.
The rest of the story
Let's be honest. The Center Axis System maximizes the performance of the rod, so our development focus was on the rod. And we have created a rod that makes you want to go out fishing. It is a fun to cast, dynamic, and easy-to-use tool. It also has the perfect balance of speed and loop control. We get our power from the deep bending bottom section, so we are also very good at roll casts and spey casts that take advantage of the D-loop.
The last point is the one I want to emphasize. When a wall of willow trees is looming in the background, obstructions are not a problem if a narrow loop Scandinavian cast will get you to a distant point; if you are casting with a D-loop, the rod must bend deeply; if you are casting with a D-loop, the rod must bend deeply; if you are casting with a D-loop, the rod must bend deeply. This is not as complex as aerospace science, but it is a requirement that is often overlooked. We have also incorporated innovation in the finish. The color chosen to resemble a heron on the water's edge is a matte gray that suppresses the silhouette and light.
