Two types of hackles are harvested: the webbed-only hackle, which has a marabou-like appearance of the part called the chicaboo, and the large hen hackle. The Hen Hackle's vivid marbled pattern is conspicuous, but the Chickaboo's is also characterized by a fine marbled pattern that is raised. The hackle of the chicaboo has a soft texture like that of marabou, and when the hackle is wound directly onto the hook shank and used as the tail of a woolly bugger or the wing of a small streamer, it is easy to wind a fly that is well balanced and has good action for big fish. Another way to use Coc de Leon's Soft Hackle & Chickaboo to its fullest potential is to use it on small to medium size wet flies, soft hackle hackles, or nymph legs. Even if the hackle fiber is too long for normal hackling, the length of the fiber can be adjusted by a simple method called "reversed hackling". The hackle's movement in the water, whether in a natural drift or swinging motion, is an exquisite shimmering action, with the fiber constantly swaying and moving with the water current. For example, to express the "jittering legs" of an imager such as a mayfly or a variety of caddis pupa in the water, not only the color and texture but also the movement can be realistically produced. Of course, the degree of achievement is also very high as an attractor. It is secretly in vogue in some parts of the world as a foul shimmering hackle.
